背景:哈佛商學院的Robin J. Ely和弗羅里達州立大學的Irene Padavic在研究工作場所中的性別歧視問題時發現,許多受訪者,不論男女,都認為企業高層男女比例極度不均衡的原因是因為女性無法平衡事業和家庭。但他們通過長期的調研發現,數據并不支持這種流行的論斷。在表示因無法平衡事業和家庭而受感壓力的受訪者中,高達三分之二為男性,但只有一位男性受訪者實際作出了妥協。而幾乎所有作出職業妥協(比如減少出差頻率)的人(其中大多數為女性)則會被當下的企業文化污名化,同事或上級會下意識認為他們不求上進,工作上靠不住,從而失去晉升機會。這兩位研究者的結論是,職場上要達到真正的兩性平等,我們需要致力于改革過度工作的企業文化,這樣每個員工,不管男女,都能平衡好自己不同的社會角色。
