1.The rise of the shareholder-value movement tolerates no mission other than producing profits.
這里的tolerate(容忍,允許)如果要直接翻譯出來其實很別扭:
股東價值運動除了允許創造利潤,其他任務都不允許;
更通順簡潔的翻譯就是:它的唯一使命就是圖利;
2. The rise of the shareholder-value movement has changed the image of Big Business to some extent.
(1). 這個活動對大公司形象可能沒有影響;
(2). 這個活動可能損害了大公司的形象;
The rise of the shareholder-value movement maybe has changed the image of Big Business to some extent.
3.Nor的用法就是否定副詞置于句首引起了句子的倒裝;
Nor = not; 只不過nor 一般都置于句首,還原到句中要用not;
例句:
JPP is not young. Aman is not young.
JPP is not young. Nor is Aman.
A series of high-profile corporate scandals certainly hasn’t burnished the image of Big Business.
Nor has the rise of the shareholder-value movement.

The globalization of the economy has at the same time turned American corporations into multinational enterprises with interests that do sometimes run counter to those of their home country.
The globalization exerts adverse effects on American domestic interests. (Ture or False)
1.The globalization of the economy:
2. multinational enterprises
(run counter to: 違反, )
The globalization of the economy has at the same time turned American corporations into multinational enterprises with interests
That do sometimes run counter to those of their home country.
That= interests
Those=interests
The globalization exerts adverse effects on American domestic interests. (Ture or False)
TRUE!

According to one scholarly definition, something is humorous if people cognitively appraise it as funny, if it creates “the positive emotion of amusement,” or if it produces laughter. But while the average adult laughs 18 times a day, laughter isn’t a reliable indicator. Researchers found only 10 to 20 percent of remarks that prompted laughter to be remotely funny.
The laughter is not a dependable indicator of research.
